Essential Design Innovator is a licensed California general contractor. Our office is in nearby Garden Grove, and we serve Huntington Beach and all of Orange County. We build ADUs and remodel homes from the first sketch through plans, city permits, construction and final inspection, with one team the whole way. We speak Vietnamese. Chúng tôi nói tiếng Việt.
Whether you want room for parents, a grown child, guests or rental income, or just a home that works better for your family, here’s what we do:
A new standalone home in your backyard, with its own entrance, kitchen and bathroom.
A new unit built onto your existing house, with its own entrance.
Your existing garage turned into a full, comfortable living space.
A smaller unit created inside your existing home.
Kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces updated for the way your family lives now.
A new roof to protect your home, done cleanly and carefully.
Not sure which fits your property? We’ll look at it with you on a free site visit.

We built a new detached ADU in the backyard of a Huntington Beach home: bedrooms, bathrooms, a full kitchen and laundry. The work also included solar and new concrete around the unit. We started by clearing the old patio and trees, then took it from plans through permits and construction.
Inside an existing Huntington Beach home, we created a junior ADU with its own kitchen and bathroom, new flooring and lighting, a ductless heat pump, a panel upgrade and an EV charger.
Huntington Beach reviews ADUs and JADUs ministerially, which means city staff check your plans against set standards, with no public hearing. If your home is in the Coastal Zone, you may also need a Coastal Development Permit. The city also has a free pre-approved plan for a one-story detached ADU. It has to be built exactly as drawn, so we’ll tell you honestly whether it fits your lot.

Permits are filed online through the city’s permit portal. A new ADU or JADU also needs a separate address assignment request, and we handle both.

Yes. The city offers its own HB Pre-Approved ADU Plan for a one-story detached ADU. The city says the plan can’t be modified, so it only works if it fits your lot as drawn. We can tell you whether it fits, or design a custom plan instead. Source: City of Huntington Beach – Accessory Dwelling Units
It can. The city notes that work in the Coastal Zone may need a Coastal Development Permit on top of the normal ADU review. We’ll check whether your address is affected before design starts. Source: City of Huntington Beach – Accessory Dwelling Units
We do. We prepare the plans, submit them to the City of Huntington Beach (the city takes applications online through its permit portal) and follow plan check through. For a new ADU or JADU, the city also asks for a separate address assignment application, and we take care of that too. Source: City of Huntington Beach – Permit Issuance Process
An ADU is a full second home on your lot. It can be detached, attached, or made from your garage. A JADU (junior ADU) is a smaller unit created inside your existing home. California’s housing department explains both: California HCD – Accessory Dwelling Units.
Yes. Besides ADUs, we remodel kitchens, bathrooms and living spaces, and we re-roof homes. Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll come take a look.
Of course. We speak Vietnamese. Chúng tôi nói tiếng Việt. You can also read our Vietnamese ADU page.
